END OF WEEK REPORT

End of Week Report

An end-of-week report closes the loop on Friday. It records what actually moved, what is still open, and what should carry into the next week so Monday does not begin with everyone reconstructing the same context again.

What an end-of-week report should do

A Friday report is not a transcript of the week. Its job is to leave the next reader with a clean handoff: outcomes, unresolved work, useful evidence, and the first priorities that will matter when work resumes.

That makes it slightly different from a project status report. A status report asks, “Where does the project stand?” An end-of-week report is more like a closeout note for the week: “What changed, what remains open, and what carries forward?”

Do not turn Friday into a diary.

Routine meetings, inbox work, and minor admin can stay out unless they changed the outcome. The report should help next week start faster, not prove that every hour was busy.

FRIDAY WRAP-UP VS. STATUS

End of week report vs. weekly status report

They can look similar, but the reason for writing them is different.

END OF WEEK REPORT
Main question:
“What should we carry out of this week?”

Useful for:
- Friday wrap-up
- manager handoff
- open loops
- Monday restart context
WEEKLY STATUS REPORT
Main question:
“Where does the work stand now?”

Useful for:
- project health
- risk / blockers
- stakeholder decisions
- schedule or scope condition

If the reader mainly needs the current health of a project, use the weekly status report guide. If the goal is to close out the week and hand off context, this format is usually the better fit.

HOW TO WRITE IT

Finish the week without over-writing it

01

Start with the few things that changed

Pick outcomes, decisions, useful signals, or meaningful movement before listing activity.

02

Leave open loops open

A pending reply, uncertain metric, or possible decision should stay visibly unresolved.

03

Carry forward only what matters

Do not move the entire unfinished task list into next week. Keep the few priorities that will shape the next reporting period.

04

Make Monday easier

The final report should let you or your manager return to the work without reconstructing Friday's context from chat and task history.

Friday notes already everywhere?

Bring the loose updates together and turn them into a report you can review before the week closes.
